If there is one truth concerning communicating with God, praying the Psalms brings power, every single time! The Book of Psalms is written in a beautiful poetic prayer script that equips you to receive every line that promises a blessing from God. For example, we see how the Psalmists are in true agony asking the Lord for help and then suddenly we see a sudden wind of praise.
When Jesus was tested in the wilderness the devil quoted a verse from a favorable Psalm which says, He shall give His angels charge over you, and in their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone. As we know, the enemy is trying to quote Psalm 91:11-12 in order to advance his plan against the Lord. But when you read Psalm 91, in its entirety, you are promised protection and deliverance.
Finding the perfect Psalm to pray concerning your current situation is key in getting what you want from God. Lately, I’ve been quoting Psalm 23 and often times tears will flow down because I have truly claimed this promise as my own. My current situation is that I need a blessing, I need favor, and I need the anointing. Therefore, we can be certain King David obtained all of these things in prayer.
So the first thing you must do is ask the Holy Spirit to lead you to the Psalm that best reflects your need for the day. There are hundreds of them but the Lord will make this goal very simple. The next step, is to decree the word of God out loud, with faith, so those promises will become a true reality in your life. When finished, worship the Lord, in song and praise.
One of my favorite Psalmists today is Ron Kenoly because he uses the Book of Psalms to write many of his songs. Very few inspirational song writers use this method, but Kenoly’s lyrics are still popular because they come from the word of God. While praying, I will listen to Ron Kenoly then a peace would come in the room, and I join in the fun.
In closing, we should be thankful we live in a free society that can read the Bible because there are millions of people who don’t have that freedom. So take advantage in reading the word of God and praying the Book of Psalms each and everyday. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. For the Lord is the great God, and the great King above all gods Psalm 95:2-3
